Description

A full-length rear zipper makes this gorgeously crafted harness boot easy to fit, enter, and wear. The Frye Company is the oldest continuously operated shoe company in the United States. Founded in 1863 by John A. Frye, a well-to-do shoemaker from England, and family-run until 1945, Frye products have a long and illustrious history. Frye boots were worn by soldiers on both sides of America's Civil War, soldiers in the Spanish-American war, and by Teddy Roosevelt and his Rough Riders. When home-steading drew adventurous New England families to the West during the mid and late 1800's many of the pioneers wore Frye Boots for the long journey. Today Frye remains true to its roots with its line of heritage boots, but continues to innovate as it introduces chic new handbags, pumps, and sandals to its collection.

I must have looked at these boots for close to a year before I finally pulled the trigger. I now wish I'd bought them sooner. These boots look, feel, and smell amazing! I usually wear a size 6.5 and these were spot on. They were comfortable right of the box with no pressure points and even more so now that I've worn them a few hours. The zippers were a bit stiff initially, especially on the right and it's still a bit tricky initially at the bottom of the heel but I imagine this will get better with wear. No issues with calf width either...I have average calves and they fit nicely over skinny jeans with room for 2 fingers. Also, the quality of the workmanship is amazing. One thing to consider though...if you have any bony prominences at the back of your heels you might find the back zip quite uncomfortable and difficult to zip up.I had been tossing up between these and the Frye Melissa harness boots. If you are the same here are a few comparisons which may help. The Melissa is a dressier boot with smoother leather (the tops of these boots are grainy and a bit wrinkled in comparison), the shaft height is also higher and Melissa has a more traditional side zip. These boots fell a couple of inches below the knee while the Melissa was almost knee length on me (5'5"). Melissa also has side-stitching on the edges of the harness strap while this one is plain. Melissa looks more like a traditional English riding boot with a shaft tapered and more fitted at the ankle. I think these boots though have more of a rustic, funky look, which I like in a harness boot so I'm happy with my decision. The cognac is a rich tan color and I was lucky to get a pair that wasn't too wrinkled on top, (though for some this might add to the natural leather charm. ) Overall I'm thrilled with my purchase...if you can get these at a good price, don't hesitate.
